CMS’s R&D Strategy

CMS’s R&D Strategy

Since its foundation, in the automotive supply industry CMS has taken steps forward with its sense of manufacturing which shapes according to the client’s needs and demands, the manufacture of the high quality products and specialized in the production of light alloy wheel which is technologically focused taking its strength from innovation and within the frame of the vision it has and with a mission to become a global player.

The aluminium alloys in which CMS holding an extensive expertise has well accepted synthesis especially in automotive industry owing to the high strength ratio of lightness. For reducing the weight of the automobile and thus fuel economy along with the low environment emission values, it is preferred in the manufacture of wheels, motor and chassis support components. However, the rapid changes in the automotive industry and fierce competition environment force manufacturers to fulfil the demands of the clients and for the sake of answering the demands in a more qualified way they refer the manufacture industry to adaptive methods. In that respect, the necessity of works to be carried out aimed at supplying the needs by understanding the characteristics of product material effectively arises. At the end of supplying the information regarding these characteristics, the manufacture will be faster and more qualified. However, in the automotive industry quality meaning more reliable and long- lasting products should be taken into account. Thus for an automobile manufacturer to fulfil the description of quality mentioned, the primary mission is to enhance the functional characteristics of the product.

CMS’s research and development works have been shaped by interacting with the customers closely and following the technological agenda for the purpose of adapting effective technologies to its structure. Since 2007, with per 1.022.000 YTL and capital turnover 0, 35% CMS maintains its investments regarding the subject of developing new product and technology to answer the different demands of its clients varying day by day. Particularly, with respect to the development of technology, TUBITAK (Turkish scientific and technical researches institution) makes use of R&D programmes and collaborates with the universities. For 2008, we can say that in CMS’s total group budget 290 Million USD, it allocates 2% share.

Within the compass of strengthening its position, regarding the practices of enhancing the new products and process technologies CMS will continue to make use of opportunities developing by focusing on more effective and environment-friendly manufacture technologies integration.

If we look at the future, regarding the subject of “global warming” which has become a current issue in its agenda, CMS’s works on the subject of reducing the emission values of transport and automotive sector in particular, involves the manufacture of more effective and light vehicles. Within CMS’s area of expertise, manufacturing light wheels with higher resistance also carries great importance. Accordingly, besides manufacturing these kinds of environment friendly products, CMS’s environmental responsibility in the development of its works includes the usage of technologies producing less emission values and the recycle of an effective material during the manufacture of these products.

Differing from its competitors regarding the usage and enhancement of science, innovation and environment friendly technologies, CMS will continue its R&D investments with respect to finding new market opportunities and promoting associations compatible with its work practices.
