CMS Opened the Second Factory in Çiğli, Its Annual Production Level was Risen Up to 4.5 Million Pieces

CMS Çiğli fabrikaBeing Turkey’s first and one of the world’s leading light metal wheel manufacturers, CMS put a new factory into service in Çiğli in addition to its active factory in İzmir Pınarbaşı. With the factory in Çiğli providing job opportunities for over 600 people has stepped in, CMS aims at manufacturing 4.5 million pieces per year by doubling its annual production capacity. CMS intends to endorse 280 million USD at the end of 2007 by exporting its 90% of the total manufacture.

CMS laid its foundations in 1956 with 21 thousand liras capital and in 1985 it started manufacturing aluminium alloyed wheel, today it is one of the most important manufacturers of “Light Metal Wheel” sector globally. It has officially opened its new production centre in Çiğli. In the last two years, CMS made investments over 50 million Euros intended to the enhancement of domestic capacity. Its second factory in İzmir attracts attention with its 2 million 200 production capacity pieces per year. The new production centre in Çiğli is founded on a closed area which is 30 thousand 800 square meters and it provides new business opportunities to 616 people. It will increase the exporting power of CMS ranking among one of biggest top ten manufacturers of Turkish automotive supply industry.

In 2007, we will sell 4 million pieces of wheels. We are Europe’s fourth major aluminium alloy wheel manufacturer

CMS Chairman of the board, Berat Ösen expressed his opinions about the opening of second production centre: “Each year, in real terms CMS enhance its manufacture and sales. It is not only the biggest aluminium wheel manufacturer in Turkey but also it is one of the five manufacturers regarding its field in Europe. With the factory in Çiğli founded in addition to the factory in Pınarbaşı which has carried on its business since 1985, we will double our production and export capacity. Along with the factory in Çiğli, our annual production capacity reached 4.5 million pieces and in regards to the usage of capacity, we are now Europe’s fourth major aluminium wheel manufacturer. In 2005, we sold 2 million 900 thousand pieces of wheels and in 2006, we sold 3 million 600 thousand pieces of wheel. By the end of 2007, we aimed at selling 3 million pieces of wheels along with the endorsement of 280 million USD.” Berat Ösen highlighted that CMS exports 90% of its total products: “To become a major player globally, we needed to increase our production capacity with more modern technologies enabling manufacture. Also Germany, French and Italy, where the heart of the automotive sector beats, are three major markets CMS exports into. As CMS, we enable export focused manufacture for Toyota, VW AG (Audi, Bentley, SEAT and Volkswagen), PSA Group (Peugeot-Citroen), Fiat Group (Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia), Renault and Honda, England. Also in Turkey, we supply wheels to Toyota, Renault, Fiat and Honda. We opened our second factory to meet the demands of these important labels properly and by the end of 2007, we aim 141 million Euros of export.”

There are CMS wheels over seven million vehicles in the world

Berat Ösen emphasized that the position they have reached today is not based on coincidental successes. He further stated that sense of institution management focusing on planning, success, innovation and keeping up with current developments in the world played a crucial role to become an international exporting label contributing to the national economy, once starting its business in a small atelier, now having two factories with high capacity. Berat Ösen explained that today CMS labelled wheels are used in seven million vehicles worldwide: “CMS has become a label recognised with its qualified and smooth features in Europe. When we knock a foreign company’s door and say that we are “CMS”, firms sincerely welcome us. This situation effectively emphasizes our label’s success today.”

Quality is more prominent in the automotive supply industry

CMS’s chairman of the board, Berat Ösen expressed his opinions regarding the automotive supply industry:” In the development of automotive supply industry, cost, quality, logistics, performance and growth potential have become the effective dynamics. Firms that could not reach certain a level disappeared or the sector was acquired by the innovative leaders. Quality became the major factor. We are prominent with our quality as well, in that sense we succeed global achievements. For instance, CMS was deemed worthy of “Regional Contribution Award” organized among its suppliers by Toyota each year. CMS received this award by excelling over 400 suppliers of Japanese manufacturer. Toyota granted this award only to five firms in 2007. Toyota stated that the only European supplier wining the prize is CMS.”


The objective is to produce for heavy vehicles

Berat Ösen highlighted that commercial vehicle markets increase much faster compared to the personal auto market. He indicated that from 2008, as CMS they also aim at expanding the wheel production capacity for heavy vehicles: “Since 2006, we did testing manufactures to develop a wheel for heavy vehicles. We received an approval from German TÜV (Technischer Überwachungs - Verein). We wish to enhance our wheel production capacity for heavy vehicles considering our manufacture results appropriate for the sense of quality of CMS’s label.”
